Blackdog’s Pan-Mass Challenge

Blackdog News

Pan-Mass Challenge

Blackdog is proud to participate in the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) for 2023, a two-day bike-a-thon that raises money for cancer research and patient care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. This will be our first year participating in the PMC, and we are excited to support this important cause.

The PMC is the largest single athletic fundraising event in the world, and for over 40 years, it has raised more than $800 million for cancer research and care. This year, our team of eight riders will join thousands of other cyclists from across the country to ride up to 192 miles over two days, all in the name of supporting cancer patients and their families.

As a company, Blackdog is committed to giving back to our community and supporting causes that matter to us and our clients. Cancer has touched the lives of many of us, and we know how important it is to fund research and treatment programs that can help improve outcomes for patients.

We invite you to join us in supporting the PMC by donating to our team or to individual riders. Every dollar raised goes directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and its mission to find a cure for cancer. Your support can make a real difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families.

TEAM BLACKDOG BUILDERS’ PMC

About the Pan-Mass Challenge

The Pan-Mass Challenge is a two-day bike-a-thon that was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, a cyclist and former advertising executive. The first ride raised $10,200 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and since then, the event has grown into the largest single athletic fundraising event in the world. Over the past 40+ years, the PMC has raised more than $800 million for cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber.

The PMC attracts thousands of cyclists from across the country, who ride various routes ranging from 25 to 192 miles over the course of two days. Each rider must raise a minimum amount of money in order to participate, with 100% of every dollar raised going directly to Dana-Farber. The event is supported by thousands of volunteers who provide food, water, medical support, and encouragement to riders along the way.

The funds raised by the PMC have had a significant impact on cancer research and care at Dana-Farber. They have enabled the institute to launch innovative research programs, develop new treatments, and provide support and resources to patients and their families. Some of the key achievements made possible by PMC fundraising include:

  • The discovery of the gene responsible for a type of leukemia, which led to the development of new treatments that have dramatically improved outcomes for patients.
  • The development of targeted therapies for various types of cancer, including melanoma, lung cancer, and breast cancer.
  • The establishment of the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center, which has collected and processed more than 100,000 units of blood and platelets for cancer patients in need.

In addition to its impact on cancer research and care, the PMC has also fostered a strong sense of community among its participants and supporters. Many riders and volunteers have personal connections to cancer and participate in the event as a way to honor loved ones, support survivors, and raise awareness about the importance of cancer research and treatment.

By supporting the PMC, Blackdog and its team of riders are making a tangible difference in the fight against cancer. We invite you to join us in this important effort by donating to our team or to individual riders. Together, we can help find a cure for cancer and improve outcomes for patients and their families.
